How to Stay Bouji on a Budget This Summer '18

Posted on

Let’s be real, there’s not one of us who doesn’t want to look bouji all year round, but then again, there’s not a lot of us who can actually afford to. Whether you’re trying to save or paying off student loans, it’s a tricky time when summer comes around and all your hopes of living your best life, and your money, somehow goes down the drain. But I’m here to tell you that yes, it can be done. You absolutely can be bad and bouji and at the same time be money mindful, you just have to be in the know.

FAUX MANICURES

For many of us, the time between our nails falling off and getting a fresh set is our lowest point. Maybe you’re waiting to get them done again on pay day, or maybe you’re using the excuse of wanting to go natural (yeah, okay lol), regardless, it’s a crap feeling compared to when you first get them done. A fresh full set can leave you feeling like anything’s possible. Not only are they cute, but they also show off the fact that you like to take of yourself – expensively.

But for those who don’t want to spend £30+ for a fresh full set and £20+ for infills, there’s always alternatives. WAH Nails London, a Hackney-born brand with its own nail salon and products do some amazing press-on nails for £9, ranging from marble chrome to stiletto-shaped nudes, and then there’s the fact that you can buy your own UV gel kit on Amazon for £30, letting you get free pedicures all year round.

DESIGNER SLIDES

Okay, so now you have the ten white toes, but what about the Tory Burch flip flops? Regardless if you’ve just had a pedicure, there’s no doubt that a pair of luxury slides can make you go from average to bouji. Oh, and your budget? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. A key benefit of Summer is the sale that starts in every high-end store, and right now you can get your hands on a pair of Prada slides 50% off from Net-a-Porter, or Versace Medusa slides at 40% off from Harrods. Still too pricey? You can always go for a pair of Hermes-style slides from Zara for just £25.99.

LASH PLUGS

The other day while rushing a friend to get ready, I overheard her saying “okay, just a light beat and some lashes”. And now that I think about it, there’s been so many times a cheap pair of fake lashes have transformed me from looking run down into looking cute. However, it’s the right lashes that can make all the difference (please, PLEASE don’t go and buy 50p lashes off eBay!), nine times out of ten they look OTT and cheap. Instead, go for the made-in-china type, aka the plug your fave lash brand imports and sells for 10x more! Click here and thank me later.

DIY BEAUTY

To be honest, most people have caught on to these previously-secret beauty tricks. Now when you go on the gram, there’s hundreds and thousands of videos by beauty bloggers showing off their own secrets on cheap and easily accessible beauty routines. But I have to remind you guys of it, because it’s too simple! Why spend £20 on a Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner, when you can make a conditioning mix of coconut oil and avocado together yourself? Why spend £7 on a Lush lip scrub, when you can mix sugar and oil for free? Or spend £50+ on a facial, when you can give yourself for less than £5? Sis, this is 2018, don’t let these big companies fool you into buying what you can easily create yourself.
